At long last, Pikmin 4 is headed to Nintendo Switch in 2023. During the latest Nintendo Direct, Mario creator and icon Shigeru Miyamoto appeared to discuss the latest entry in the franchise, which began life on the GameCube in 2001.
This was the first time we've heard about Pikmin 4 since seven years ago, when its existence was first hinted at. It's been in development, presumably, this entire time, and we saw some of the fruits of that development time period with a trailer that accompanied Miyamoto's announcement.
The painfully short trailer showed off a green environment that focused on the tiny Pikmin creatures themselves, as well as some Bulborbs and a look at some of the way the game will play out. According to Miyamoto, we'll play from the perspective of the Pikmin, with improved, more simple controls that have been tailored to make it easier to focus on the gameplay: what the Japanese call "dandori," said Miyamoto.
When will you be able to get your hands on the newest Pikmin game? It's still a ways off, but it's on its way. And it looks like we're headed for a pretty packed 2023 with the addition of Pikmin 4 to the roster.

Pikmin 4 Release Date
Pikmin 4 is coming as a Nintendo Switch exclusive in 2023. Unfortunately, there was no specific date given alongside the game reveal and trailer. But for a title that fans have been waiting for so long, it's refreshing to finally hear that it's coming back—and so soon.
It's been 10 years since Pikmin 3 debuted, so it's high time fans got some well-deserved Pikmin action. Luckily, there's still other Pikmin magic to play at the moment, even if you're raring to go to play the new game. Remember that Pikmin Bloom, Niantic and Nintendo's AR-centric mobile game, is out now and you can play for free while roaming the world and finding the colorful little creatures.
Plus, you can always go back and play the previous entries in the series while waiting for the new Pikmin to blossom. They're well worth experiencing, especially if you're a newcomer to the games. That's part of their appeal, given that they're so fun and whimsical. You never know what you've missed, so going back and enjoying the games once more (or for the first time) is a great idea.
