Duquesne, Pennsylvania, Police Chief Thomas Dunlevy is jailed for alleged witness intimidation--along with other charges--regarding an alleged sexual assault case involving his friend.
On Wednesday, Dunlevy, 49, turned himself in once Allegheny County police received a warrant for his arrest. As of Thursday, it was unclear if he has an attorney or if he would face disciplinary action because of the charges in Duquesne.
According to WTAE, he is awaiting arraignment, and he was released on an unsecured bond of $25,000.
The suspect in the sexual assault case is 20-year-old Nathan Beck, who police said was a volunteer firefighter in Duquesne and is a friend of Dunlevy, according to WTAE.
There was a report of statutory rape made to Bethel Park police on August 15. Beck allegedly engaged in sexual acts with a 15-year-old girl inside a residence in Bethel Park, WTAE reported.
The criminal complaint against Dunlevy said the father of the girl told Bethel Park police that on October 19 Dunlevy came to his workplace located in another town, KDKA reported. Dunlevy allegedly said he was there for Beck and that the man and his daughter's mother "enabled" Beck's relationship with the teenage girl, according to court paperwork.
Dunlevy allegedly told the man information that would be revealed during the trial of the case that could result in "a negative contact" with the county's child welfare department, WTAE reported.
Dunlevy allegedly said the man gave Beck and his daughter alcohol, which could result in the loss of custody in his children and involve child protective services if the case went to trial, according to KDKA.
Jimmy DePasquale, a lawyer representing Beck, said his client did not ask for Dunlevy's help regarding his criminal charges, KDKA also reported.
Wednesday evening, Duquesne Mayor Nikole Nesby released a statement, saying that she had urged for Dunlevy's termination in the past once several complaints emerged from the community, according to WTAE.
"...I pushed for disciplinary action and termination. However, the Council ignored my request (as they have several times during my term) and even censured me," Nesby said in the statement, WPXI reported.

The victim's father told Bethel Park police he felt pressured to drop the case, and county police soon launched an investigation into Dunlevy.
He's charged with witness or victim intimidation, obstruction or retaliation in a child abuse case, obstructing the administration of law and official oppression.
