'Power' Spin-Offs: Every Sequel, Prequel and Spin-Off Rumored and Confirmed So Far

Power is nearly over (with the final episode airing February 9), but the story of New York's criminal underworld will continue in at least one Starz series. Power Book II: Ghost, led by Mary J. Blige and Method Man, is coming this summer to the channel, but it might not be the only spin-off we get in the coming months and years. Power executive producer Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson has said he is working on a prequel focusing on his character Kanan Stark's life in '80s NYC, and numerous other characters may be the subject of their own sequels and prequels.

In January, Deadline quoted Starz president Jeffrey Hirsch, who said at a Television Critics Association event that the network had "some titles [that] are prequels, some sequels, some spin-offs" planned from Power, in a piece that also revealed that there are currently two writers rooms working on spin-offs for the show. These are believed to be for:

Power Book II: Ghost

So far, the one spin-off that we know is coming to Starz is Book II, a sequel set 48 hours after the events of the finale (that is, two days after the death of Ghost). This continuation will, according to an Entertainment Weekly interview with Power creator Courtney Kemp, focus on the "very strong female characters" of Power. Leading the series will not be any of the remaining strong women like Tasha (Naturi Naughton) or Ramona (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), however, but new character Monet (Mary J. Blige), a woman whose "acumen comes from the street" according to Kemp.

Method Man will star in "Power Book II: Ghost" Starz

This show will feature "some people from the original show as well as a bunch of new characters," but no Power stars have been announced for this sequel. It is likley that some characters rumored to be getting their own spin-offs (of which more below) may actually be appearing in Book II: Ghost.

TGE (The Golden Era)

While Power EP Kemp works on Book II, 50 Cent seems to be working on a prequel set in New York circa 1988. In a 2018 Instagram post, the rapper wrote, "My Power spin off is so crazy I'm doing the prequel. Wait till you see this shit, TGE influence (The Golden Era) Southside we outside 1988 Boom."

In recent interviews, he clarified this comment by revealing more details of the spin-off. In another Instagram post he confirmed the series would see "the return of young Kanan," the character he played until Season 5 of Power, and in a radio interview on the Streetz is Watching Show he said that Sean Penn would appear in his series. Though the second Power writers room seem likely to be working on this, the show has not yet been confirmed by Starz.

Though these are the only two Power spin-offs confirmed (or in TGE's case, quasi-confirmed), the events of Power Season 6 have also left a number of loose ends that have left fans wanting to know what happens to their favorite characters:

Tommy

Of all the plot points explored in the last few episodes of Power, the one that seems the most likely to extend into a spin-off is Tommy's escape to Los Angeles in Episode 13. After all, this gives us a new location from the other two Power spin-offs and would allow fans the chance to follow one of the show's most popular characters.

Though actor Joseph Sikora fanned rumors by wearing a hat reading "Tommy Season One" (which turns out to be a promotional hat from a series of that name starring Edie Falco), no announcements have been made about this potential west coast Power sequel.

Tate

Power Season 6, Episode 14 saw Rashad Tate (Laurenz Tate) land on his feet again when he was announced as the Democratic nominee for Governor of New York, which he achieved by betraying Ramona. A show that sees Tate playing dirty to get made governor while Ramona tries to destroy him seems a pretty great idea for a show, and entertainment blog The Jasmine Brand released an article saying this spin-off was "currently in the works and has not yet been finalized," but Starz has not confirmed whether this is the case, or whether Tate will appear as a character in Book II, where the governor's race will surely be going on in the background of the series.

Tariq

Rumors abounded that Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.) would get his own show, in which he tried to take his father's empire following his death. However, 50 Cent seemed to confirm that this would be part of Book II in a now-deleted Instagram post featuring him, Rainey Jr. and Gianni Palolo (who plays Tariq's roommate in Season 6) with the caption, "On set of Power Book ll right now you know the vibes."

Young Ghost, Tommy and Angela

At the end of January, a Power fan leaked footage that appeared to see a young Ghost, Tommy and Angela (Lela Loren) in high school in 1996, suggesting that this could be its own spin-off or some sort of flashforward from the 1988 timeline of TGE. However, the timecode on this leak, which showed it came from one hour and 20 minutes into an episode, might hint it is a coda to the 80-minute finale to Power.

Power Season 6 comes to an end on February 9 on Starz.
