The internet has thrown its support behind a man who firmly told his mother she would not see her grandchild again after she complained about his partner breastfeeding the baby.
In a post shared in the AmITheA**hole forum on Sunday, June 5, Reddit user u/taaccountnewborn2 explained the confrontation that erupted between him and his mother after she complained about his partner's breastfeeding around other people.
The post proved popular among other Reddit users, generating more than 1,000 comments and being upvoted 12,200 times.
In the post, u/taaccountnewborn2 explained that he, his partner and their baby went to visit his parents.

He said: "Well, we are at my mother's house, I don't have the best relationship with her but my wife thinks it's important and i enjoy talking to my dad. So we were over with the baby chatting with my father and my mother cooking, as they were talking [my wife] started feeding.
"Baby was eating and she [had a] blanket covering her slightly. Dad has six kids he couldn't give less of a s***, he looked away for a moment so she could get situated and engaged back in conversation without any issue.
"My mother comes in, gasps and goes on a rant. She said that that is disgusting and if she was to do that she should've gone home, especially in front of her husband, who apparently 'looks uncomfortable' and it's rude to do when you know people around you don't like it."
When the Reddit user's father complained, the poster's mother reportedly continued ranting and told u/taaccountnewborn2's wife to "respect herself more" and not to breastfeed in the house again.
The outburst led the Reddit user to tell his mother to "get lost and get over herself."
He added: "I said that she was being a hypocritical a hole and that this is the last time she's seeing wife or baby. This happened once and not going to happen again."
The Reddit user added he and his wife left and said he believed: "I was right to do what I did."
Many commenters praised his conduct during the confrontation and also complimented his father's attitude throughout the episode.
One Reddit user said: "Breastfeeding is feeding a child. I don't get the uncalled obsession of telling people to do it in bathrooms. Would your mom eat her lunch there?
"You did well OP [original poster]. No one should be confronted like your wife was and your mother needs to stop behaving like the mean witch of any given child story."
Another said: "So often the partner here does f*** all. OP's dad did the right thing and it would be nice if he could carry on seeing the baby. Away from the mum of course."
A third commenter posted: "It hurts that so often misogyny is carried over by women instead of men. Ladies, we need to do better."
Newsweek found user u/taaccountnewborn2 has been suspended from Reddit. The website's press team has been contacted for comment.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, it is recommended that infants be exclusively breastfed for the first six months of life, with breastfeeding continuing while complementary foods are introduced during the next year or so.
