Prince Harry introduces the royal-themed 75th anniversary episode of Thomas & Friends which features actors playing his father and grandmother.
Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles both appear as characters in the TV special of Thomas and The Royal Engine.
But the Duke of Sussex, 35, is there in the flesh, reclining in an armchair by a fireplace with a copy of the book, addressing a new generation of fans of the show.
He tells the audience: "This year Thomas & Friends is celebrating 75 years of friendship and teamwork. The story starts late one afternoon on the island of sodor."
The anniversary episode also features Gone Girl actress Rosamund Pike playing an engine called the Duchess of Loughborough.
The 22-minute episode will air in May and follows Thomas the Tank Engine as he takes the Fat Controller to London to be honored by the queen at Buckingham Palace for service to railways.
The Prince of Wales is shown as a child specially requesting Thomas' services in the show, which airs in America on May 1 on Netflix.
Harry said: "Thomas the Tank Engine has been a comforting, familiar face to so many families over the last 75 years—entertaining, educating and inspiring children on important issues through exciting stories and characters.
"I certainly have fond memories of growing up with Thomas & Friends and being transported to new places through his adventures.

"I am very proud to have been asked to take part in this special episode. I wish Thomas & Friends a very happy anniversary."
Pike said: "It is an absolute honour to have the chance to appear in the show. I take it as a big responsibility to play Duchess who is a lovely, warm, bubbly sort of effervescent engine that I am incredibly drawn to because she is very anxious to get things right."
The revelation comes a day after Prince Harry launched online mental health resources for veterans.
HeadFIT includes breathing exercises, posture and relaxation techniques among other strategies for service personnel to manage stress levels.
It was launched with the U.K. Ministry of Defence and Heads Together, the mental health campaign set up by the duke with Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2017.
Prince Harry said: "I've long believed the military community should lead the way for the rest of society. For too long we have been waiting for problems to arise and then reacting to them.
"HeadFIT is a proactive approach to mental fitness, focusing on our own potential to increase our performance, using proven methods in sport science."
