Prosecutors charged 29-year-old Aariel Maynor for the shooting of Jacqueline Avant, the wife of music executive Clarence Avant. Maynor also allegedly shot at the Avants' security guard and his own foot.

The Los Angeles County District's Attorney's office announced Monday that Maynor has been charged with murder, attempted murder, felon with a firearm, and two counts of residential burglary with a person present, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The attempted murder was for shooting at the security guard, who was not injured.

Maynor, who was previously convicted of assault, robbery, and grand theft, was on parole during the time of the shooting.

On Dec. 1, police responded to a 2:23 a.m. call to the Avant's home that reported a shooting. Jacqueline Avant, 81, was found by officers with a gun wound. She was transported to the hospital but she did not survive, The Associated Press reported.

That same early morning, at 3:30, police responded to a report of another shooting in the 6000 block of Graciosa Drive, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Officers found Maynor with a gunshot wound in his foot. Authorities said that an investigation was conducted, finding that a burglary occurred at the home and Maynor had accidentally shot himself. An LAPD watch commander had "put two and two together" and reported to Beverly Hill Investigators.

The Beverly Hills police have investigative responsibility for both cases, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

On Tuesday, Maynor is expected to have his arraignment. It is unclear if he has an attorney to speak for him.

"Mrs. Avant was a treasured member of our community. Her generosity and goodwill touched so many lives," said District Attorney George Gascón in a news release.

"We must continue to work together to hold accountable the people who commit violent crimes against our community," Gascón said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

An hour later, Los Angeles Police Department officers were called to a home in the Hollywood Hills — about 7 miles from the Avant residence — for a reported shooting. They found Maynor there, as well as evidence of a burglary at that home, and took him into custody.

Jacqueline Avant was a longtime local philanthropist who led organizations that helped low-income neighborhoods including Watts and South Los Angeles, and was on the board of directors of the International Student Center at the University of California, Los Angeles.

The Avants' daughter, Nicole Avant, is a film producer and former U.S. ambassador to the Bahamas and is married to Netflix co-CEO and Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos.
