A disturbing video that has circulated on social media shows a reported member of the Proud Boys calling a Black woman a racial slur before punching her in Akron, Ohio, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The Proud Boys, per the Anti-Defamation League, is a right-wing extremist group that is transphobic, anti-immigration and Islamophobic. The group was founded in 2016 by Gavin McInnes, the co-founder of VICE Media.
The man, identified as Andrew Walls, is heard yelling the n-word several times before directly addressing the woman, 23-year-old Cameron Morgan.
Morgan took a few steps into the video frame before Walls lunged at her, punching her in the face.
"That's a f***ing woman," another man said several times as he threw a punch back at Walls before the video ended.
Morgan told Fox affiliate station WJW she and her friend left a nightclub and saw a group of men fighting. One man, she said, was yelling a racial slur.
"I was looking at him, he just made eye contact with me, and started calling me a racial slur," Morgan said. "And then just literally punched me in my face."
The Akron Beacon Journal reported that Morgan's father, David, said Walls pulled her into the street by her hair after he punched her, and she suffered a concussion.
Lieutenant Mike Miller of the Akron Police Department told the outlet that officers were called to the area on a report of people fighting. He said no one was arrested at the time because Morgan left the scene.
Morgan and her father showed the video to the police and filed a report later that same day. A warrant was issued for Walls.
The video, which was taken by Morgan's friend, was accompanied by a request to identify him.

It did not take long before Walls was identified. He reportedly turned himself in on Monday afternoon, ABJ reported.

Captain Dave Laughlin told the outlet that Walls called the department Sunday night and agreed to turn himself in. He was charged with possessing a firearm while intoxicated and assault.
Police are also looking into whether additional charges may be filed due to the use of racial slurs.
An article from January 2021 by the ABJ touched on the local chapters in the area. Walls was photographed and identified as the vice president of the Akron/Canton Chapter of the Proud Boys.
Newsweek reached out to the Akron Police Department for further comment.
