The Purge Season 2 is now airing on The USA Network and Syfy, with the second season introducing a number of new cast members and a plot unlike any other version of The Purge we have seen before. When Does The Purge Season 2 Air?
The Purge Season 2 episodes will premiere simultaneously on The USA Network and Syfy, with each episode airing on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. After airing, episodes will be made available on the USA and Syfy websites to allow viewers to catch up on the latest episodes.
At some point after Season 2 has finished airing, the 10 episodes will all be released on Hulu, The first season made it to the streaming service in early September 2019, so the second is expected to follow suit at the same time in 2020.
Who is in the Cast of The Purge Season 2?
Season 2 will have an entirely new cast as a new group of characters navigate The Purge. Leading the cast for Season 2 will be Max Martini of The Order as the head of a team who plan bank robberies for Purge night.
The character's job is a direct response to the fans, as executive producer Krystal Houghton Ziv revealed to Entertainment Weekly. She said, "this is [a] thing the fans have always been asking about: 'Why is it always murder? I would go out and get money!' So, we're like, Yes, this guy is doing what you would do."
Speaking of another character, fraternity member Ben, played by newcomer Joel Allen, Ziv said: "Ben... is our frat guy-college student, who is out on a fraternity scavenger hunt, but gets caught up in a really bad situation, and is almost killed, and has to defend himself, and then he is unable to let that experience go the rest of the year." However, his girlfriend Kelen Stewart (played by Danika Yarosh) will try and help him process his trauma.
These cast members will be joined by Rochelle Aytes as Michelle Moore, a woman "who must rebuild her world after her peaceful existence is shattered when an assassin breaks into her and her husband Marcus' (Derek Luke) home on Purge night" according to a USA Network casting announcement.
What Will Happen in The Purge Season 2?
As some of the cast announcements hint at, the plot of The Purge Season 2 will take a radical departure for the series and also focus on the days after a Purge, where the participants have to grapple with what they have just done.
Speaking to GameSpot, Ziv described the atmosphere of the new season: "I think the core idea was that culture would be kind of tense and overly polite and the social dynamics would be very different for the world that we live in. Because you never know who's going to come after you if you piss them off."
She also revealed that the character of Ben is central to the new season's central themes: "This is a character that would have grown up in a world where the Purge was commonplace—it would have started when he was four or five, By the time you get really forming memories, the Purge was there. What does that do?"
Is There a Trailer for The Purge Season 2?
The official trailer for the new season also teases the idea of life outside of Purge night. "One night a year all crime is legal. But surviving The Purge is just the beginning," the promo teases.
In the preview, we see Kelen comfort her boyfriend by saying "what happens on Purge night stays on Purge night," but that does not seem the case as the promo paints a world that has got more violent as people deal with the psychological aftermath of the night.
