Yellowstone star Q'orianka Kilcher is currently experiencing some legal issues, after being charged with workers' compensation fraud.

Kilcher, who recently starred as Mary Palmer in The Alienist, was charged with fraud on May 27, 2022.

She is set to appear in court on August 7, 2022, after pleading not guilty to the charges

According to Los Angeles County Superior Court records, Kilcher was granted $96,838 in benefits between October 2019 and September 2021 because of injuries to her neck and shoulder she sustained during the filming of 2019's Dora and the Lost City of Gold.

Kilcher had claimed she was unable to work after her injuries and had turned down several roles as a result.

However, an investigation uncovered that she had begun filming scenes for the Paramount series, Yellowstone between July and October 2019, the same period she was receiving benefits.

A statement provided to Time by the Department of Insurance said: "According to records, she returned to the doctor and started receiving disability benefits five days after last working on the show."

The Department of Insurance stated Kilcher had visited a doctor "a few times that year" but allegedly stopped attending treatment and "did not respond to the insurance company handling her claim on behalf of her employer."

In a statement, her attorney, Michael Becker, said Kilcher was a passenger in a production vehicle when she was hurt.

"Third-party doctors verified her injury and entitlement to benefits. Ms. Kilcher was at all times candid with her doctors and treatment providers…and she never intentionally accepted benefits that she did not believe she was entitled to," Becker said.

He continued, that Kilcher will "vigorously defend herself and asks that she be afforded the presumption of innocence both in and outside the courthouse."

Kilcher joined the cast of Yellowstone in 2019, taking on the role of business consultant Angela Blue Thunder. Her character was close with Thomas Rainwater, played by Gil Birmingham. In season three, Rainwater had asked for Angela's help to make things better for people living at the Broken Rock Indian Reservation.

She appeared in four episodes of the hit series, starring opposite Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser Luke Grimes, Wes Bentley and Kelsey Asbille.

At the moment, it is unknown if Kilcher will make an appearance in Yellowstone Season 5.

Outside of Yellowstone, Kilcher is best known for her roles as Pocahontas in Terrence Malick's 2005 Oscar-nominated film The New World and Kaʻiulani in 2009's Princess Kaiulani.

Kilcher has also appeared in the movies Color Out of Space, The Vault, and Hostiles in recent years.

In television, Kilcher is well-known for portraying Kerrianne in Sons of Anarchy, Mary in The Killing and LaNada Means in Drunk History.

She also took on the role of Aya in the 2011 miniseries Neverland.

Most recently, Kilcher starred as Niki in Channing Tatum's directorial debut Dog.

Yellowstone Season 5 is scheduled to premiere on November 13, 2022.
