Actress Rachel Bilson had to clear up her comments about ex Bill Hader after what she said about their breakup made headlines.

The O.C. star, 41, dated the Saturday Night Live alum until July 2020 after they were first spotted together in December 2019.

They made their red carpet debut at the 2020 Golden Globe Awards, but split only months later. Reports at the time suggested the split was amicable but Bilson was allegedly "absolutely devastated" over the breakup, according to E! News.

In June this year, Bilson got a lot of attention after comparing their split to childbirth.

Speaking on her podcast Broad Ideas, Bilson said the breakup was "probably the hardest thing I've ever done, harder than childbirth."

But she clarified those comments this week on Alex Cooper's podcast, Call Her Daddy, saying the breakup was hard due to the coronavirus lockdown.

"I did not actually say that. I'm happy you brought that up," Bilson said when the podcast host asked her about the comment.

"I said, obviously, he and I, we're not still together, so we broke up. But it was during a time where you could not leave your house."

Bilson continued: "I had to deal with this. I had to deal with being alone and taking care of my kid and everything else. Being isolated and not being able to connect with any humans, not being able to help myself. I got into a depression, all of these things.

"That time having to be forced to face all of your s**t I said was harder than childbirth. Is anything more painful? F**k no. Maybe kidney stones."

Bilson reflected on her other experiences with breakups, including from fellow The O.C. star Adam Brody and Star Wars star Hayden Christensen with whom she shares daughter Briar, 7.

"All breakups are hard, especially when you're in something that you're really into... Things happen, things change. There was a pandemic, yeah so it was a hard time," she said.

The actress also revealed the couple were forced to breakup over the phone due to the COVID-19 quarantine.

"It was not in person. In the beginning [of the pandemic] you're so isolated, you're so scared," Bilson said.

"He has his own family to think about, I have my family to think about and with Briar's dad, we were in a bubble. So it was definitely not done in the normal in person way."

Bilson helped heal her heartbreak by reading, writing and therapy which she's "a big advocate for."

"It was a blessing in disguise, having to be alone with all of the s**t and your thoughts and not leave your house, I had to look at everything," she explained.

"I got to do all the things I never have time to do and it gave me that time to just really do things for myself."

Co-parenting with Christensen during the pandemic allowed the actress to "have time to be absolutely alone."

"It really helped me and I'm focusing just on me and it's not about the guy or the relationship. It's literally just about me as a human," she said.

"I was happy that I was forced to sit in the pain or the the hurt [and] all the feelings that come on, because I got to get through it. Some people will hold on to that for years like because they'll distract themselves."

After their breakup Hader dated actress Anna Kendrick, while Bilson is currently dating actor Zac LaRoc.

Bilson also made headlines this month when she admitted what she missed of Hader after their breakup.

Speaking to 13 Reasons Why actress Tommy Dorfman on her own podcast Broad Ideas, she was asked what she missed "the most" about her relationship with the Barry actor.

Bilson replied, "his big d**k," and they burst into laughter, but she then joked, "we can keep that... and cut, let's move on."
