Former Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member Porsha Williams has the internet split over whether she meant to insult rap legend Nicki Minaj on Instagram.

Williams' name was trending on social media Monday after she posted a meme featuring nine Black women rappers. The text on the Instagram post read: "Thank you for making [not you] female rap about unity," with the "not you" appearing in red atop a black-and-white photo of Minaj.

The reality star soon received a wave of backlash over the post, prompting her to go on the defense.

"Guys calm down! I love @nickiminaj," Williams' wrote on Instagram. "I saw this and posted it quickly thinking it was a salute to all these Queens including Queen @nickiminaj! No news here. No shade either.

"Y'all gotta chill I literally just used her song in my video a day ago lol ...," she continued. "Have a wonderful day."

Some Instagram users appeared to not believe Williams' claims, with one person writing "Shade Was Definitely Intended." Others seemed to take Williams at her word, like one user who commented "I figured you didn't notice it chile," along with two laughing emojis.

Before long, Williams' Insta post even spread to other social media platforms.

"I hope Nicki sees Porsha's apology clearing things up before she comes on here swinging lmao," one Twitter user wrote on Monday afternoon.

But other Twitter users said it was entirely plausible that Williams didn't understand the post's shady implications. Some brought up a now-infamous moment from season 6 during which Williams revealed that she thought the Underground Railroad, a 19th-century network of routes that slaves used to escape to the North, was an actual train.

"Porsha is the same girl who thought the Underground Railroad was a real railroad ion think she know what this means," one such person wrote.

Last year, Williams announced her departure from the Real Housewives franchise ahead of season 14. She's since introduced a Bravo spinoff series about her family life called The Real Housewives of Atlanta: Porsha's Family Matters.

The reality star also recently released her memoir, The Pursuit of Porsha.

Meanwhile, some of Williams' former castmates bared it all on Sunday during part two of RHOA's season 14 reunion. Kandi Burruss, who joined the franchise in season 2, has hinted that she may choose to return once more, thereby becoming the "longest-running housewife across all franchises," Deadline reported Saturday.

Williams and her representative declined to comment for this article.

Newsweek reached out to a Minaj representative for comment.
