NFL Superstar Richard Sherman has been released from jail after waiving his first court appearance. King County District Court judge Judge Fa'amomoi Masaniai ordered the release for Sherman, though she said she found probable cause for four non-felony criminal allegations.

Masaniai also found probable cause that Sherman was driving under the influence of alcohol and resisting arrest.

"I see Mr. Sherman is a pillar in this community, he's a business owner, he's a husband, he's a father," the judge said. "I'm gonna release Mr. Sherman."

Sherman was initially arrested and investigated for a domestic violence burglary, but felony charges have been dropped.

"Richard Sherman is among the best in our community, and we're proud to have him here," said Cooper Offenbecher, Sherman's attorney. "He's a good person with a good soul."

On Wednesday, July 14 at 1:49 a.m., a 911 call was made by Sherman's wife, Ashley Sherman. On the call, she was frantic, describing her husband as "belligerent," and "threatening to kill himself." She also stated that Richard Sherman was going to go to her parents' house once he left. He allegedly wrestled with his wife's uncle, then left his primary residence to confront his in-laws. En route to his next location, he is said to have crashed into a construction zone.

Upon arriving there, Richard Sherman attempted to break down the door to his in-laws' home.

Sherman's father-in-law, Raymond Moss, armed himself with a handgun and pepper spray to protect his family, according to a report obtained by The Associated Press.

"The family began to yell in fear," Moss told police, according to the report. "I used pepper spray on Sherman's face through the partially opened door as he was still banging and attempting to gain entry. I told him to stop. I armed myself with my handgun at this time fearing for the safety of myself and my family."

Once Redmond police arrived, Sherman was cordial, but things escalated once he found out that he was being arrested. He fought police and had to be subdued by a police K-9. Prior to being arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest, malicious mischief, and residential burglary, he was taken to a local hospital and treated for cuts sustained from the incident.

"At this time, we're going to make no statements, except he didn't harm anybody," Ashley Sherman told The Seattle Times on Wednesday. "My kids were not harmed in the incident. He's a good person and this is not his character. We're doing all right, just trying to get him out. I want people to know no one was injured."

Richard Sherman is expected to be back in court on Friday, July 16.

He was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in 2011. He spent seven seasons with the team and won a Superbowl in 2014. He played for the San Francisco 49ers from 2018-2020 and is currently a free agent.
