Rihanna's Met Gala Look Slammed—'Buttercream Icing'

Rihanna might not have received the reaction she was looking for with her 2023 Met Gala dress as she was compared to "buttercream icing."

The "Umbrella" singer is currently pregnant with her second child and walked the red carpet with her partner A$AP Rocky. Together they were attending the Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This year's theme that the attendees had to follow was "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," which was a tribute to the late German fashion designer.

Rihanna arrived at the event on Monday night wearing a cream dress, sunglasses and a type of floral shawl that members of social media couldn't help but poke fun at.

"She look like some buttercream icing," one Twitter user noted. Author Chris Sumlin suggested "she's done better," while the Canadian entertainment TV channel Etalk said: "It's giving whipped cream" vibes.

Popular Twitter Blue subscriber known as Muto wrote that Rihanna and Puerto Rican musician Bad Bunny must have the "same designer" as his outfit also featured a floral train, similar to Rihanna's outfit.

Rihanna's outfit trended across Twitter, with hundreds of thousands of people tweeting about the musician. The summary of her dress and overall look ranged from some fans calling it "perfection," while others deemed it "underwhelming."

She wasn't the only one dressing extravagantly at the annul fashion event, as celebrities, VIPs and other guests are expected to push the boundaries of fashion at the Met Gala. The Last of Us actor Pedro Pascal and "Call Me By Your Name" singer Lil Nas X were other celebs who caused a huge reaction with their own looks at the event.

Rihanna's cream look was completed with a pair of classic sunglasses which featured prominent eyelashes stuck to the front of her shades.

While walking the carpet, she confirmed to reporters who designed her dress. Variety captured the moment she announced, "It's Valentino, baby," suggesting her look was designed by the Italian fashion designer, known by this mononymous name.

Alongside Rihanna on the red carpet was her partner and the father of her first child, and father of the child they're expecting, A$AP Rocky. He gave a nod to Scotland by wearing a kilt around his black suit. A viral video saw the rapper jump a barricade before entering the Met Gala on Monday.

A Twitter user, later revealed to be Madelyn Llanes, 21, from Long Island, New York, claimed to be the person Rocky spoke to before jumping over. She told The Independent, "He said: 'Sweetheart I need to get through' and I just told him 'no' because the barricade was right in front of me, there wasn't really anywhere to go."

Llanes continued: "After he hopped over, he was like 'thank you' and then just laughed and flipped me off."
