An especially violent road rage incident occurred Sunday afternoon in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and an eyewitness captured the encounter on a cellphone video.

The video shows a man exiting his car after he had forced the victim to pull his car off the road. The assaulter is then seen trying to open the other driver's car door. After failing to open the door, he then repeatedly punches the other man in the face through an open car window.

The incident took place on the Medical Center Parkway at around 2 p.m. on Sunday. The Murfreesboro Police Department reported that Robin Eric Rosenblum slowed down his Volkswagen Jetta while driving on the parkway and prevented another driver in a Toyota Corolla from passing him.

The driver of the Corolla pulled next to the Jetta and yelled for Rosenblum to speed up, using profanities in the process. Police indicated this angered Rosenblum, who then tried to run the Corolla off the road, but the other driver came to a stop. Rosenblum also stopped, and he then proceeded to get out of his car and approach the Corolla.

"He tried to get into the car and couldn't because the doors were locked," Sergeant Greg Walker of the Murfreesboro Police Department Traffic Division, told the ABC-affiliated WKRN-TV News. "Unfortunately, the window was down, so he started assaulting the gentleman."

Reporter Julia Palazzo of WKRN-TV shared a link to a story about the road rage incident on her Twitter account, which includes the cellphone video.

WKRN-TV News spoke to the victim on the phone after the incident. He declined to give reporters an interview, the station said, but he told them he was punched in the mouth.

Rosenblum was arrested for aggravated assault and reckless endangerment with a motor vehicle. Police also reportedly found two grams of marijuana in his vehicle, and he was hit with an additional drug possession charge.

The punching incident was one of three separate road rage events that occurred in Murfreesboro over the course of a few days. One of the incidents involved a motorist firing several gunshots from a handgun at another vehicle on Friday afternoon. No one was injured, but police are still searching for a gold Camry involved in the crime.

The third incident happened on Monday at around 9:15 a.m. A grandmother was following her daughter in a different vehicle when another vehicle sped up and cut her off. The granddaughter and the suspect exchanged words before the granddaughter allegedly pulled a handgun on the victim. She was later arrested and is facing aggravated assault charges.

Sergeant Walker asked for drivers to exercise more caution and keep cooler heads.

"Stay as calm as you can, because you never know what the other person has going on, what they may try to do to your family," Walker told WKRN-TV News. "It's not worth putting your family at risk."

Walker recommended calling 911 should someone find themself the victim road rage incident.

Newsweek contacted Murfreesboro Police Department for further comment about the road rage incidents but has not heard back as of press time.
