A robbery suspect is believed to have dropped his wallet at the scene of a fatal shooting in Texas, according to reports.

Houston Police Department officers launched a manhunt after the suspect allegedly shot his victim on Halloween, Fox26 reported.

Officials told the outlet the robbery happened at the 6300 block of Windswept Lane in the Mahatma Gandi area of West Houston at about 12:30 a.m on Sunday.

When police arrived they found a man in his early 30s who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to his chest.

Initial reports said the victim had been robbed in the moments leading up to the shooting and that the suspect had fled the scene in a blue-green Toyota Corolla. The suspect is believed to have dropped his wallet before he fled, according to Fox26.

The outlet added that a witness checked the wallet and was able to identify the suspect from the details found inside.

An investigation into the robbery and shooting has begun.

Newsweek contacted the Houston Police Department for comment.

The Halloween shooting was the fifth incident in October where a person was fatally gunned down during a robbery or attempted robbery in Houston, according to the Gun Violence Archive, a database that collects information about gun-related crimes across the U.S.

It also stated that 34 people in Houston, including those in October, had been fatally shot during a robbery or attempted robbery since January 1, 2021.

According to City-Data.com, a social network that collects information about crime rates and other information about U.S. cities, there were 9,147 robberies in Houston in 2019.

While the number was higher than 2018, which recorded 8,761 robberies in Houston, it was lower when compared to 2018, 2017 and 2016.

Shooting at a Halloween Party

The robbery happened just hours after at least "a couple of hundred people" were present during a Halloween party shooting that left a 20-year-old man dead and nine people wounded.

According to the Texarkana, Texas Police Department, the shooting happened inside Octavia's Event Center on Saturday.

When officers arrived just before midnight, "they encountered a large number of people running from the building and several inside suffering from gunshot wounds."

Many of the victims were transferred to Wadley Regional Medical Center and Christus St. Michael Hospital, but their wounds didn't appear to be life-threatening, according to police.

Police told Newsweek on Sunday that 21-year-old Keuntae McElroy had been arrested in connection with the shooting and had been charged with aggravated assault.
