The person of interest in the Maine mass shooting on Wednesday evening liked a number of posts from right-wing and conservative figures, according to screen grabs from his social media accounts.

Maine State Police have published the identity of a person of interest in the major incident. Robert Card, 40, was described by police as a firearms instructor believed to be in the Army Reserve and assigned to a training facility in Saco, Maine. He remains at large and is said to be "armed and dangerous."

Card's Facebook and X, formerly Twitter, accounts have now been deactivated. It is unclear if Card was responsible or if they were suspended by X and Meta. According to screen grabs and videos from what is allegedly Card's Facebook page, he finished a 20-year career in the army earlier this year. Newsweek is unable to verify this information at this time.

A video of Card's X account, using the username @RobertC20041800, shows he was interested in right-wing figures. His "liked" tweets include content published by Donald Trump Jnr., Tucker Carlson and Dinesh D'Souza. He also liked tweets by former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and Jim Jordan, according to the screenshots.

Card liked a tweet from the former president's son regarding trans and non-binary "mass shooters" from March this year, which reads: "Given the incredible rise of trans/non-binary mass shooters in the last few years… by far the largest group committing as a percentage of population… maybe, rather than talking about guns we should be talking about lunatics pushing their gender affirming bullsh*t on our kids?"

Another tweet he liked, from Tucker Carlson, regarding the same subject, reads: "The trans movement, it turns out, is the mirror image of Christianity, and therefore its natural enemy. People who believe they're God can't stand to be reminded that they're not."

He also liked a post from Dinesh D'Souza about banning assault weapons, which reads: "Ban assault weapons? Well, cars kill more people than guns do. But we blame the drivers. We don't ban large or fast cars. We understand that cars, like guns, don't act by themselves. The blame lies with the people who operate these mechanical devices. Common sense 101."

Screenshots of posts from Card, posted by YWN reporter Moshe Schwartz, show he only posted twice on X.

"Mass murderer for a wnba player great job keep up the good work," Card responded to a post about a CNBC news story on Brittney Griner, who was previously held in Russia on smuggling charges for allegedly carrying medically prescribed hash oil into the country.

At least 16 people have died in the mass shooting at a bowling alley in Lewiston, Maine, the state's second most populous city, according to information provided by the Associated Press. Other reports put the current death toll as high as 22, but this is yet to be verified in an official release from law enforcement agencies.

The shooter targeted Schemengees Bar and Grille and Sparetime Recreation bowling alley just before 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening. The two sites are around four miles from each other, meaning an individual shooter would have likely used a vehicle to travel between the venues. The Lewiston Police Department released a photograph Wednesday night of a white Subaru Outback that officers said may have a painted black bumper.

Card is yet to be apprehended by police. Maine public safety official Mike Sauschuck earlier told reporters: "Card is considered armed and dangerous. He is a person of interest, however, and that's what we'll label them at moving forward until that changes. If people see him, they should not approach Card or make contact with him in any way."

Sauschuck added: "We have literally hundreds of police officers working around the state of Maine to investigate this case, to locate Mr. Card, who, again, is a person of interest, and a person of interest only."

President Joe Biden has been informed of the events unfolding in Maine. A statement seen by Newsweek reads: "The President spoke by phone individually to Maine Governor Janet Mills, Senators Angus King and Susan Collins, and Congressman Jared Golden about the shooting in Lewiston, Maine and offered full federal support in the wake of this horrific attack."

Newsweek has contacted Maine State Police for more details via email.
