Twihards rejoice—there is hope for a potential movie in the future starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
Well, that's what David Cronenberg has said anyway.
The renowned body horror director has just released his latest feature Crimes of the Future starring Stewart, and has spoken about his idea for a film starring her and her former co-star and boyfriend, Pattinson.
Pattinson and Cronenberg have worked together before in the films Cosmopolis and Maps to the Stars and having worked with both stars, the director has said he would like to see them work together again, potentially.
"It was Robert who actually introduced me to Kristen. They have developed beautifully, separately, as actors," Cronenberg said in an interview with World of Reel.
"Making arthouse movies and successfully carrying that off. Kristen and I had a great time and Rob and I had a great time. For me, yeah, I can definitely think of a movie, or idea, that would be great to have them both together."
Cronenberg added: "I don't want to get into it because it wouldn't be my next movie, however, it might be problematic since fans might expect a certain kind of relationship and that would get in the way of creating new characters for them. So, I have a strange feeling that might be problematic, so it's only theoretical for now."
The pair famously shot to fame when they starred as lovers in the beloved vampire franchise, the Twilight Saga, with their onscreen romance blossoming into the real world.
The couple, beloved by Twilight fans, dated for four years but their relationship came to an abrupt end when Stewart was photographed with her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, which revealed their affair.
Both have gone on to date other high profile celebrities and have illustrious careers in Hollywood, but they have yet to be cast in a project together.
Cronenberg's suggestion that they would be great in one of his films together has caused a stir on social media with fans and film buffs discussing the prospect widely this week.
