Russian Doll was renewed for Season 2 shortly after the first episodes aired on Netflix – but that was three years ago, and since then, fans have had plenty of reasons to think that the show would never return.

Slowly, though, details began to emerge about Season 2. A Schitt's Creek star was announced to be joining the cast, and then Netflix teased a 2022 release date.

Now, not only do we know exactly when the new episodes are coming to streaming, but we also have our first trailer for the new episodes.

Here's what we know so far about the long-awaited Season 2 of Russian Doll.

When Is 'Russian Doll' Season 2 Coming Out?

At the start of March, Netflix put a date announcement trailer for the show on their YouTube page. This confirmed that the new episodes would be coming on Wednesday, April 20—Wednesday! What a concept!

As usual with Netflix shows, the episodes are expected to be out at midnight PT (that's 3 a.m. ET). On that day, viewers will be getting all seven episodes, one episode less than we got in Season 1.

Who Is in the Cast of 'Russian Doll' Season 2?

As confirmed by the trailer, Natasha Lyonne and Charlie Barnett will be back as Nadia and Alan, the two 30-somethings who found themselves stuck reliving the same day in Season 1.

Joining them will be Annie Murphy, the Emmy-winning star of Schitt's Creek and the recent AMC comedy Kevin Can F*** Himself. Most details of her character are under wraps, though Lyonne teased in an Entertainment Weekly piece that she was an unexpected ally for Nadia: "There's some serious motherf****** on that Russian Doll show—on a human level—and she's definitely one of the good guys." EW's exclusive images also showed Murphy's character with a very 1970s blown-out hairdo and some very Annie Hall glasses.

As for the rest of the cast, the EW preview said that all the main cast members are back. All the sweet birthday babies out there can rejoice—the trailer confirmed that Greta Lee will be back as Maxine.

What Will Happen in 'Russian Doll' Season 2?

Full details are under wraps, but we know that the series is set four years after Nadia's very Groundhog Day 36th birthday. What the characters have been doing in that time is not clear, but per the promo Alan has grown himself a nifty moustache.

The Netflix trailer did not reveal many plot details, but it featured repeated shots of a subway train going through a tunnel—which would chime with an image released by Netflix of Alan standing on a subway platform.

The EW preview also confirmed the most important thing: That viewers will get to hear Lyonne say "cock-a-roach" again. It also hinted that the new episodes "explore [...] existential themes as the duo discover a fate even worse than dying over and over, when they must sift through their pasts via an unexpected time portal located in one of Manhattan's most iconic locales."
