Sarah Michelle Gellar and her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., have gone viral for their hilariously conflicting takes on the classic cartoon Scooby-Doo.

The screen stars, who have been married since 2002, appeared in two live-action adaptations of the animated favorite—Scooby-Doo (2002) and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004)—playing love interests Daphne Blake and Fred Jones.

And over the Fourth of July weekend, a throwback video showing the couple promoting their work on the big screen version went viral, as fans enjoyed their juxtaposed takes on the lovable dog detective.

At the start of the video, Gellar is seen waxing lyrical about how "ahead of its time" the original Scooby-Doo cartoon series was.

"It offered so much more than every other cartoon," said the actress. "It was so ahead of its time. It had a story, they worked hard to figure it out—and it wasn't gender-specific. It wasn't a boys' cartoon or a girls' cartoon, or any of those things."

The camera then cuts to Prinze, who is seen saying, in comparatively nonchalant fashion: "It was a talking dog, you know what I mean?"

Sharing the video, which has been viewed almost 5 million times on Twitter, @darkosfilm commented on the unintended comedy aspect of the brief clip, writing: "this video still has no business being so funny."

Originally debuting in 1969, Scooby-Doo featured teen friends Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, and Shaggy Rogers solving mysteries alongside their talking Great Dane, Scooby-Doo.

The enduring franchise has been hugely successful over the years, spawning a host of spinoffs—including Gellar and Prinze's films, which also starred Matthew Lillard (Shaggy) and Linda Cardellini (Velma).

Gellar and Prinze met while working together on the 1997 thriller I Know What You Did Last Summer, before going on to co-star in the Scooby-Doo movies.

In a 2019 interview with Us Weekly, Gellar suggested that fans shouldn't expect to see the photogenic twosome share the silver screen again anytime soon.

Citing their parental responsibilities of daughter Charlotte, 11, and son Rocky, 8, Gellar told the publication: "I mean, right now we don't work at the same time anyway, so now it would never happen. You never say never, right?

"Because there's going to be a time where they're grown and they're out of the house, so never say never. But right now we commit to one of us always being home, so that when our daughter fractures her hand and needs a cast, there is a parent there, while this parent is sitting here with you."
