Whether questioning your parenting decisions or ruining your vacation, for many people, the nightmare in-law stereotype is very real.

A woman is being slammed online for attempting to throw her pregnant daughter-in-law out on the street.

In a post shared to Reddit's "Am I The A**hole" forum on July 22, user u/Lostmylifetoday explained how he and his ex-wife jointly own the apartment where their son's girl "Ilhan" is currently living. The divorced couple purchased the apartment for their son Michael and his new family to live in, but unfortunately, Michael recently passed away.

Mom plans to make future grandchild homeless
Reddit users described a woman's actions as "messed up" after trying to kick her daughter-in-law and future grandchild out of her dead son's apartment. Here, a stock photo of a pregnant woman crying in front... AntonioGuillem/iStock/Getty Images Plus

"[He] passed away this May at 22 years old. He was a firefighter and died at the job," he wrote.

"Michael's GF Ilhan is 21F and is pregnant, due in October. Her very conservative parents kicked her out for getting pregnant outside of their religion," the post continued.

Apparently, his ex-wife was "never fond of Ilhan." With their son gone, she wants Ilhan to move out, despite being pregnant with her grandchild.

He continued: "Ilhan stayed in the apartment after his death. I told her already I'll help out in any way I can.

"My ex approached me a few weeks ago and asked me to sell the apartment and get our money back. I told her Ilhan REALLY needs it and deserves our help (we both have more than enough money)."

Despite his refusal to sell the apartment, his ex-wife persisted in asking. When he continued to say no, the woman threatened to sue Ilhan for Michael's estate.

"I told [my ex-wife] I'll just pay her for her share of the apartment and let that be it, she gets her money then," he wrote. "[But] she said she doesn't think Ilhan should have the apartment."

"I told her she is a spiteful and selfish a**hole who cares about the money and not her DIL and grandkid, who literally will never know his dad. She cried, called me an AH and said I am insensitive about her loss."

It's common for both genders to clash with their mother-in-law. Research recently published in the Evolutionary Psychological Science Journal revealed that 44 percent of men and women surveyed quarreled with their mother-in-law more than their own mother.

However, evolution might be to blame, with researchers believing that mothers are unconsciously trying to protect their children, even once they've reached adulthood. The majority of participants said money and childcare caused the most conflict, which are also key stressors in romantic relationships.

Reddit users were disgusted by the mother-in-law's actions, with the post receiving 8,500 upvotes and over 800 comments.

"Hasn't Ilhan been through enough?" said MasterChickens52. "Kicked out [by] her family. Lost her partner while she's pregnant. Now your ex wants her to be homeless? That's messed up."

Umishi agreed, commenting: "This is clearly not about the money or grief for OP's ex. She just wants to use this opportunity to torment someone she dislikes."

However, many users applauded the man for supporting Ilhan and his future grandchild.

"You are a great person to want to protect your DIL and grandchild," said Nennygym. "Please continue to help her if you're able—you'll always be favourite [sic] grandpa too!!"

While pensive_moon wrote: "It sounds like you're the only family Ilhan and your grandchild have left.

"I hope you take good care of each other and that your ex comes around eventually, for the baby's sake," another commenter said.
