Senior Dog's 'Confused' Face as Family Surrenders Him After 12 Years

Before becoming a parent, some people argue that having a dog is a great way to prepare, but there is no guarantee that things will stay the same once the baby arrives. One beagle's life has dramatically changed since his owners had a kid.

After 12 years, Rentas was given up and is now searching for a new home. The 14-year-old beagle was recently abandoned for his safety before being adopted by a woman, who sadly had to take him back.

"He just needs a loving home to spend his retirement years in!" Jenn Lacaillade, the front-desk coordinator at the Burien C.A.R.E.S. shelter in Washington, told Newsweek.

Lacaillade said: "Rentas was surrendered by his family because they had a toddler who liked to play rough with Rentas, and the owners were worried that the child would hurt him."

Since then, the 39-pound beagle has been adopted by a woman, but it was only a matter of time before he was returned to the shelter, as he didn't get along with her cats.

Lacaillade said: "Rentas will be best fit with an older person who has no other animals, where he can lay around all day and be loved up. Although he is older, his prey drive is still strong, and he loves chasing cats."

Rentas is said to be a staff favorite at the shelter, and the team of volunteers wants nothing but happiness for the canine.

"He is super cuddly and sweet and loves going for walks! When it's time for a walk, he'll get excited and start dancing around," Lacaillade said. "He's a very chill dog who enjoys sleeping and snoring his days away while being petted and brushed.

"He deserves to finish his life in a loving home being spoiled," Lacaillade added.

On October 5, the Old Dog Haven shelter showed its support by posting a heartfelt plea for Rentas on its Facebook page. The shelter, based in Oak Harbor, Washington, wrote a lengthy post in first person. The staff referred to the dog's emotions as "confused". Many will most likely agree that his spirit appears to be low.

The post received a lot of traction, with 1,000 likes and over 680 shares.

One comment read: "Sad after all those years back in a shelter, what a terrible thing to do. Dogs have feelings. Praying that someone give this beautiful dog a loving home."

"Oh, sweet angel pup... I hope someone gives him all the love he deserves soon," wrote another user.

"You can see it in their faces," posted a third.
