When Is Serena Williams Next Playing at the U.S. Open?
Williams will next play on Friday, September 2, at approximately 7 p.m. ET. She will take on Croatian-Australian Ajla Tomljanović for her her third match of the tournament.
Tomljanović, 29, is ranked number 46 in the world. She advanced to the third round after defeating Russia's Evgeniya Rodina in three sets.
Before her match with Rodina, Tomljanović was questioned about the prospect of facing Williams but, at the time, she didn't want to get too far ahead of herself.
"For me, the next one is going to be a really big task just because I've been in a few situations where I've had a non-seed and someone would say it's a good draw and it would kick me in the a**e because I would think about it," she said, according to Yahoo! Sport.
"So I'm taking that as an opportunity but at the same time I'm trying to approach it like I haven't done before so I'm not even thinking about [Williams]. But it would be cool because I've never faced her so I don't want her to retire and me not ever have played her," she added.
Tomljanović reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon in July but was knocked out of the competition by eventual champion Elena Rybakina.

Speaking about the upcoming match against Tomljanović, Williams said: "I have seen a few games of hers in the last few weeks. We are talking about a strong player with powerful tennis. She has had many injuries in the course of her career and she has always recovered, so I respect her a lot.
"It will be a good match and I hope to be able to give my best as always."
