Kristen Stewart scored herself an Academy Award nomination for the portrayal of Princess Diana in the 2021 film, Spencer, and fans are ecstatic on social media.
In a recent interview with Stephen Colbert, she discussed how she prepared to play Diana.
"There would be no version of getting it perfect or 'right.' It's like doing your job and getting as close to someone personally and absorbing their spirit and their energy as best you can," she said.
During the interview, she spoke highly of the late Princess.
"I just loved her," she added. "She's begging to be spoken about and dreamt on and that's why we have so many versions of this story right now cause we kind of need her."
Directed by Pablo Larraín, the drama film follows Princess Diana (maiden name Spencer), her mental health struggles, and the decision to end her marriage with Prince Charles.
Stewart was also nominated for many other notable awards this year including a Golden Globe and Critic's Choice nomination, among countless wins around the United States critics' societies.
In a statement to Entertainment Tonight this week, Stewart shared her excitement about her first Oscar nod.
"I am speechless and humbled this morning," she said. "I am bowled over by this. I never thought in a thousand years I'd be in the company of these four incredible women. I am so touched and I am so grateful for the work that was generated on this film. I'm so proud to be a part of our film community. I am SO happy. It is a good day."
Also competing for the Oscar are Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), Penélope Cruz (Parallel Mothers), Olivia Coleman (The Lost Daughter), and Nicole Kidman (Being The Ricardos).
