A video showing a Buffalo man attacking another, brandishing an AR-15 rifle according to police, has gone viral.

The clip, which began circulating on Twitter, after being posted by user Iasia Davis, on Monday has so far been viewed more than 1.8 million times.

She captioned the video: "This happened on Virginia street in Buffalo NY last week! That guy is definitely a hero, he saved so many lives."

According to reports, the clip is actual security footage from a drug-treatment clinic on the 200 block of Virginia Street.

The incident happened on Thursday, November 10, and the footage was released by the Buffalo Police Department, according to a WKBW report.

In the video footage, a man holding a rifle can be seen walking through the front door while another individual, identified as a security guard by police, is speaking to people behind a counter.

The man with the rifle then fired a shot into the wall, causing the security guard to flinch. The latter then appeared to try to open the door to the clinic before realizing it was closed.

After a brief and unsuccessful attempt to jump over the counter, the guard rushed to the armed man and managed to immobilize him after a bit of a wrestling.

Moments later, more people from within the clinic come in through a separate door, with one attempting to help restrain him.

Jeremy Griffin, 48, was arrested and now faces multiple charges, in connection with the events shown in the footage and with a separate incident that took place earlier in the morning, according to a WGRZ report

He has been accused of shooting a woman in the leg on Pennsylvania Street, in West Buffalo, earlier on Thursday.

Additional video footage has also shown the moment when the two security guards, with help from civilians walking on the street, were able to pin the gunman to the ground, as the struggle spilled onto the sidewalk.

One of the civilians was able to grab the gun away from the suspect while the other three ensured he remain on the ground.

Speaking to WGRZ on a video call, the Erie County district attorney, John Flynn, praised the efforts of all involved for preventing the incident from escalating.

"I just can't say enough about the heroic efforts of the two security guards inside the clinic [or] the two civilians who just happened to be out front," Flynn said. "Because there were numerous employees in the clinic, and there were numerous patients in the clinic as well, and this could have been much worse."
