Tom Cruise and company are planning to go back and "tweak a few things" for the upcoming film Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One, according to British actor Simon Pegg.

The next installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, which has faced numerous delays in recent years, will arrive as a two-parter. Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One and Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part Two are currently scheduled for release in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

Pegg has been part of the franchise since Mission: Impossible III (2006), and he's set to return for what will be the seventh Mission: Impossible movie.

While speaking to Newsweek about his upcoming animated movie Luck on Apple TV+, Pegg shared an update on when fans can expect to see the next two Mission: Impossible movies.

"Dead Reckoning Part One is due out this time next year in July 2023. We've just kind of we've pretty much finished that that film now," Pegg told Newsweek, although there may need to be a few corrections made as production starts on the eighth movie.

"There's a few things to pick up [on seven] because it's a two-parter with episode eight [that] we've just started, which will be Dead Reckoning Part Two, obviously," he continued. "There's probably still a few things that we'll go back and tweak in seven as eight evolves because there'll be little parallels that would be nice.

"But yeah, we're officially now shooting Dead Reckoning Part Two. So that will be out in '24, I guess."

Both movies have faced extensive release delays already, as the two Mission: Impossible movies were originally scheduled for release in theaters in July 2021 and 2022. The pandemic affected the release initially, before Top Gun: Maverick overtook the release date originally scheduled for Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One.

The seventh and eighth Mission: Impossible movies are planned as a send-off for Cruise's character Ethan Hunt, according to Variety. The media outlet reported that an insider called the Dead Reckoning movies the "culmination" of the entire series, which implies this could be the conclusion of the entire franchise.

Cruise, one of the highest-grossing actors of his generation, has been making headlines throughout the filming of Dead Reckoning: Part One. Production started in Venice in February 2020 before having to be shut down three weeks later. An audio recording of Cruise yelling at a crewmember went viral in December 2020 during a shoot in the United Kingdom. Additional filming also took place in Poland and Norway.

The current release date announced by Paramount Pictures suggests Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One will be released on July 14, 2023.
