A dog that has "beautiful eyes like Tom Brady" and a "smile worthy of prime time" is on the hunt for a forever home.

Seven years old, the smiling rescue dog has captured hearts but is still on the hunt for the perfect home.

Weighing just 22 pounds, Yara the small beagle is currently being cared for at Texas Star Rescue in Longview, Texas.

Texas Star Rescue is a no-kill shelter, meaning they care for animals who have been abandoned at kill shelters across East Texas and parts of Louisiana.

Each year some 6.3 million pets are surrendered to U.S. shelters, which is an average of 17,260 a day, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The number of dogs and cats taken in by pet shelters hit 46,807 a day during January 2023, an increase of 1,744 compared with January 2022, the 24Pet 'Shelter Watch Report' found. Around 920,000 surrendered animals are euthanized every year. Shelters are striving to minimize euthanasia rates by promoting adoption campaigns, spaying and neutering programs, and behavior rehabilitation.

Not just a pretty face, Yara is incredibly sweet and gets on well with other dogs and people.

"Yara came to us from a living situation that was not ideal. We are looking for a furrever home that will make her an inside pet and become a part of their family for the rest of her life," a spokesperson from Texas Star Rescue told Newsweek.

Described as a "happy girl" despite a difficult past and history, Yara's ideal home is with humans who can give her the time and attention she deserves to settle in and understand a loving home.

"She would love some humans to follow around every day and share a couch with and learn what the spoiled pet life is all about," said Texas Star Rescue.

Yaar has been fully vetted and microchipped, and Texas Star Rescue is willing to have Yara adopted out of state. However, interested parties would have to be prepared to travel to Longview to adopt.

Vet references are also required if there are any other pets currently in the home to ensure they are spayed or neutered and up-to-date with their shots.

As well as Yara, the shelter is also currently home to her brother Xane, a 5-year-old beagle who is also extra friendly.
