A fake news story claiming Jim Caviezel refuses to work with acting legend Robert De Niro has resurfaced and gone viral.

People on social media mocked Caviezel over alleged comments he made about the Oscar winner including that De Niro was "an awful, ungodly man," and that "it gets really awkward talking to [him] face-to-face knowing he's wearing 6-inch platform shoes."

The fake quotes first appeared on satirical online newspaper the Dunning-Kruger Times in 2023 but were recently picked up by an X, formerly Twitter, user by the account name of Mississippi Sambo. The Dunning-Kruger Times describes itself as a "subsidiary of the America's Last Line of Defense network of parody, satire, and tomfoolery."

"Jim Caviezel refuses to work with Robert De Niro because of his left wing background and extremism. What's Your Reaction?" the X user captioned the post which included a photo of the actors.

That post got more than 648,000 views, with many people taking it as fact and poking fun at Caviezel who is best known for his roles of Jesus in The Passion of the Christ and Tim Ballard in Sound of Freedom, which became a box office smash hit in 2023.

"Robert DeNiro is a National treasure. I don't know or care who tf Jim Caviezel is but I do know he's about to go the way of Ted Nugent, Scott Baio, James Woods, Kurt Cameron, Chuck Woolery & all other washed up dried out losers who think Trump is above the law. Peace out bruh!" wrote one person on X.

Another added: "Robert De Niro won 2 Oscars (9 Nominations), Kennedy Center Honors, 2 Golden Globes, Presidential Medal of Freedom, AFI Lifetime Achievement Award, SAG Lifetime Achievement, Cecil B DeMille Award. Jim Caviezel was nominated for a MTV Movie Award. De Niro isn't losing sleep over Jim."

And a third wrote: "Too bad, so sad. Another washed up Republican actor!"

But some supported the actor.

"I think that Robert Di Niro's reputation is well earned. I respect Jim Caviezel's opinion and support him‼️" replied one person to the original post.

Newsweek contacted Caviezel by Instagram for comment.

The actor has become known for his conservative opinions and strong religious beliefs.

In October, gave a speech at a QAnon convention in Las Vegas and in August 2023 threw his support behind an anti-abortion rally in Ohio.

Caviezel also reinforced his love for former President Donald Trump.

"I believe Donald Trump was selected by God almighty[...]he probably didn't think he was the best guy [to be president] or maybe he thought he was the best guy, because in my opinion, he's pretty great," he said on Steve Bannon's War Room podcast in September where he likened Trump to the biblical King David.
