The sequel to the wildly popular Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has been hit with further delays. The original movie starred comic book character Miles Morales as a new Spider-Man, co-existing in a universe with Peter Parker.

Sony announced that there would be two movies to follow up that Academy Award winner. Originally slated for October 7, 2022, the new release date for the first sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will now launch on June 2, 2023. Sony has also dropped the suffix (Part One) from the title.

Meanwhile Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse II has also had its own release date announced for the first time. It will launch less than a year after the first part and is scheduled to be in movie theaters on March 29, 2024.

The creators of the animated spectacle Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Phil Lord and Chris Miller told Newsweek about their thoughts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe adapting the Spider-Verse storylines into their live-action movies.

"It only helps us be bolder and crazier on the Across the Spider-Verse that we're working on now," Lord told Newsweek.

The part-live action, part-animated musical comedy Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile will also launch on October 7, 2022. The movie will feature Shawn Mendes as the voice of Lyle the crocodile, with Javier Bardem, Constance Wu and Brett Gelman also starring.
