The final round of the 89th Masters Tournament was one for the ages. Rory McIlroy ultimately bested Justin Rose in a playoff to claim his long-awaited Green Jacket.

In doing so, he made history joining Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Ben Hogan, and Gene Sarazen as the only players to complete the career grand slam.

Immediately after making birdie on the playoff hole, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes took to social media.

The legendary quarterback initially reposted ESPN's graphic of McIlroy winning the Masters.

He then sent a one-word message to the now, five-time major champion.

"Congrats!!," he posted.

Mahomes is, of course, not new to the sport of golf. He is an avid golfer and has participated in TNT's The Match.

McIlroy is unlikely to see the reaction anytime soon. He is busy soaking it in from Augusta, Georgia.

Sunday's round seemed like it might play out like a Greek tragedy.

He blew the lead on three occasions, and needed to play some fantastic golf down the stretch.

All of that culminated in McIlroy facing a four-foot par putt on 18 to win the tournament. He missed.

It was as shocking a moment as anyone could imagine. Haters of McIlroy were out in full force online.

But once again, the Northern Irishman steadied himself for the playoff. He hit an unbelievable approach shot inside a great shot from Rose.

The Englishman just missed his birdie putt, setting the stage for Rory. McIlroy did not miss his second chance, claiming his first Green Jacket, leaving tears in his eyes.
