Blue Jays Projected To Be The Next Team To Make A Skipper Change

MLB insider Ken Rosenthal was asked who the next manager to be fired would be on the Fair Territory podcast, and Rosenthal responded with John Schneider of the Toronto Blue Jays. The Blue Jays are not performing as poorly as the three teams that have already fired their manager this season (Pirates, Rockies, Orioles), but if the situation progresses, Rosenthal might have a case.

Rosenthal would say that Schneider is the next manager on the hot seat, but says that he won't be fired right away. The Blue Jays are just five games back of the division leading New York Yankees entering play on Wednesday and just one game under .500. The Blue Jays are not far enough back of the playoff race for a change to be made just yet.

It has been an underwhelming beginning for the Blue Jays and with a talented roster gaining the additions of Max Scherzer and Anthony Santander in the winter expectations were October bound for the great white north. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was extended to stay in Toronto for the long haul and Schneider is being given the pieces to succeed.

Schneider took over in 2022 as the interim manager when the Blue Jays fired Charlie Montoyo, and Schneider would lead the Blue Jays to the postseason in that same year. After missing the playoffs last season as well as the Blue Jays not winning a postseason game in either of their trips under Schneider's tutelage, the Blue Jays manager needs to steer them back to the playoffs once more.

Rosenthal said that the firing may be an offseason decision depending on the Blue Jays' ability to fight and claw their way back up the standings. Schneider will likely feel the heat in July if the team does not have a strong June to get within striking distance of October.
