Bo Bichette Could Bolster Tigers' Lineup Amid Javier Baez's Resurgence

The American League Central is the Detroit Tigers' division to lose after a strong start to the season.

Currently, Detroit is 29-15 and holds a 3 1/2 game lead over the Cleveland Guardians entering Friday. The team is clearly going to be a buyer at the trade deadline and look for reinforcements.

One of those could be two-time All-Star Bo Bichette.

So far this season, Bichette is off to a great start with a .290 average over 183 at-bats. He's produced three home runs and 21 RBI with an OPS+ 114, slightly above average.

After the Blue Jays signed Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to a whopping 14-year, $500 million extension, the Blue Jays will be looking to shed some money in other areas. Bichette has been rumored to be casualty of this retool since Guerrero Jr. signed his deal.

The 27-year-old shortstop is set to receive a big payday at the end of the season as he enters free agency. If the Tigers were to push for Bichette, they would owe him the remainder of $17.58 million this season and get the first crack at signing him long term.

While Trey Sweeney has posted a strong start to the season, it's unlikely he continues to hit at a .266 clip for the Tigers especially after hitting .218 in 36 games last year for Detroit.

Bichette would be a player who steps in right away and makes an impact on this Tigers roster. His bat, combined with Javier Baez's bounce-back season, would give the Tigers a strong combination in the lineup in addition to Spencer Torkelson.

Going out and bringing in Bichette makes a lot of sense for the Tigers as the season continues to progress, and it's a move they should be looking to make.
