Cardinals Predicted To Trade $15 Million Breakout Pitcher To AL Contender

The St. Louis Cardinals are seemingly entering a rebuild this season that began with the front office letting multiple veterans walk in free agency.

But this rebuild could continue, as St. Louis has multiple other players who could end up on the trade block, including breakout starter Erick Fedde.

Fedde was a trade deadline acquisition by the Cardinals last year, but with the righty on the last year of his contract, he's a very obvious trade candidate for St. Louis.

Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report recently predicted the Cardinals would trade Fedde to the Cleveland Guardians before the 2025 MLB trade deadline.

"Fedde Ends Season With: Cleveland Guardians. Ideally, he'll go to the Reds for a 'Fedde-Cincy Alfredo' headline,' Miller wrote. "But if the Guardians are anywhere close to a playoff spot at the deadline, getting back Shane Bieber from Tommy John surgery and adding in an inexpensive arm like Fedde's could anchor a late push, as this is presently one of the bleakest rotations."

The Guardians desperately need to add starting pitchers. While they have a loaded bullpen, their rotation isn't talented enough to help carry the team to another incredible season.

Fedde isn't the ace that a player like Dylan Cease or Luis Castillo is, but he's much more affordable for Cleveland. Rather than mortgaging the farm system for a name like Cease or Castillo, acquiring Fedde would be safer, albeit a much lower reward, for Cleveland.
