The Pittsburgh Pirates finally made the decision to fire their manager, Derek Shelton, following a horrendous start to the season.
Shelton had become notorious for making horrible decisions with the lineup and the bullpen, leading to more Pirates losses than they should probably have.
The firing made a lot of sense for Pittsburgh, but which manager could be the next on the hot seat?
FanSided's Robert Murray recently suggested Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde could be the next one on the hot seat following Shelton's firing.
"Brandon Hyde is not the only person to blame in Baltimore. Mike Elias, the team's general manager, deserves blame for the Orioles' lack of rotation talent and depth," Murray wrote. "Moves to bolster the rotation -- Trevor Rogers, Charlie Morton, and Kyle Gibson -- have floundered. While Corbin Burnes was a success, he departed after one season for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
"But considering the overall talent on the roster and lack of development, the Orioles could decide to make a change. That roster has no business being 13-22 and in last place in the American League East. When teams struggle, there are often scapegoats. Perhaps the Orioles' ownership group comes to that conclusion."
Hyde should take some blame here, but the bigger issue is the team's pitching staff. It's hard to blame Hyde for losses when the team's starting pitching is losing them the game before the fourth or fifth inning.
Either way, it's laughable that the Orioles are one of the worst teams in the American League right now. They have as much talent as anybody. At the end of the day, the manager is going to be the scapegoat in a situation like this.
