The San Diego Padres finished the 2024 season just a step or two behind the rival Los Angeles Dodgers. San Diego fell to Los Angeles in the National League Division Series after controlling the early portion of the series.
Since then, the Padres have lot quite a few players to free agency while the Dodgers have added a lot of talent to their roster. San Diego needs to make a few moves to finish the winter or it could end up an afterthought in the National League West.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report recently predicted the Padres would poach free agent infielder Brendan Rodgers from the division rival Colorado Rockies. Spotrac predicts Rodgers will sign for five years and $56 million this winter.

"For a Gold Glove middle infielder, Rodgers has had a solid bat ... in games played at Coors Field," Miller wrote. "Career splits of a .826 OPS at home compared to .628 on the road have undoubtedly made it difficult for the 28-year-old to find a new home.
"Know where he has been even better, though? He has a .887 OPS in 20 career games played at Petco Park, and the Padres have two spots in their lineup that are relatively up for grabs."
Rodgers, 28, slashed .267/.314/.407 in 135 games with the Rockies last season. He's been a consistent bat in their lineup for a few years now.
San Diego could target him out of desperation after losing Ha-Seong Kim in free agency. Players and fans are seemingly getting restless with the lack of moves being made by the Padres this winter which could spark the front office to get desperate in a move like this.
