Three Players Rockies Should Consider Trading Amid Historically Bad Season

The Colorado Rockies were not expected to be one of baseball's best teams this season by any means. They also weren't expected to still be four wins away from double digit victories well over a month into the season, but that is exactly where they are.

As it's been over the last several seasons, Colorado will become a seller at this season's trade deadline. Despite the 6-29 record, the Rockies actually have a few solid pieces that can be moved.

Here are three players Colorado should consider trading at some point during the season.

Kyle Freeland, SP

Freeland has done his time and paid his dues with the Rockies, as he's spent all nine seasons of his career in Colorado. It is time that he is rewarded and sent to a team that has a chance to make a deep postseason run.

He is currently 0-4 with an ERA of 5.70, but a thing to remember is that he spends half his games pitching in the elevated air at Coors Field. That ERA is probably not a full telling of the season he is putting together.

Assuming the Rockies make Freeland available at the trade deadline, the Yankees, Guardians, Dodgers and Brewers are among the teams that could and should have interest in a move for the 31-year-old left-hander.

Ryan McMahon, 3B

Exactly like Freeland, McMahon has spent all nine seasons of his career with the Rockies, and it is time that he is sent elsewhere and has the opportunity to make an impact on a playoff team.

McMahon is scuffling at the plate a bit so far this season, hitting .193 with just four home runs and 44 strikeouts in 119 at-bats. That average has actually climbed drastically in the recent days, as McMahon has seven hits in his last 10 at-bats.

If McMahon is made available, the Brewers, Cubs, Yankees and Guardians should all be on the phone trying to get a deal done to acquire him.

Scott Alexander, RP

To be completely honest, the reason Alexander made the list is because he is a left-handed relief pitcher and those seem to be a hot commodity at the trade deadline.

Alexander is a 10-year veteran and has spent time with five different teams in his career. He could be well on the way to a sixth team if he can lower his 5.06 ERA prior to the deadline.

He has a career 3.26 ERA in 10 seasons, meaning teams may look past his abnormally high ERA from this season. The Rangers, Cubs, Diamondbacks, Dodgers and Guardians could all use relief pitching help and should go after Alexander if he becomes available.
