The Cincinnati Reds have a plethora of young and upcoming pitching prospects in their minor league system. Chase Burns and Rhett Lowder are the Nos. 1 and 2 prospects in Reds organization, respectively, and both have an ETA of this year for the major leagues.

A pitcher that is also in the top 10 of the organization is right-hander Chase Petty. Petty is the No. 6 prospect for the Reds and No. 99 MLB prospect. His ETA for the major leagues should read "Wednesday" as he has been promoted and is scheduled to make his first career start against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Petty was drafted with the No. 26 overall pick by the Minnesota Twins in the 2021 draft. He was committed to play college baseball at Florida but decided to sign a deal with Minnesota and forego college.

Petty was sent to the Reds as part of the package that helped the Twins acquire right-handed pitcher Sonny Gray from Cincinnati. He has been in the Reds organization since then and he will now get a chance to showcase his abilities on the biggest stage.

He has a career minor league ERA of 3.45 and 325 strikeouts across 331 1/3 innings. His best minor league season came in 2023, when he made 18 appearances and finished the year with an ERA of 1.72 in 68 innings.

This season at the minor league level, Petty has made five starts and has an ERA of 3.52 with 27 strikeouts in 23 innings. A successful season at Triple-A Louisville has earned him the opportunity to pitch in the big leagues.

It is likely Petty will be returned to Triple-A after his start, but he will still be able to say that he made his major league debut.
