Yankees Predicted To Land $20 Million Pitcher In Blockbuster Trade

The New York Yankees have a very talented team this season, but injuries have destroyed their starting rotation. Gerrit Cole is set to miss the entire season after undergoing elbow surgery, Luis Gil is sidelined with a strained lat, and Marcus Stroman is out with a knee injury.

It's clear the Bronx Bombers need to add pitching to the big league roster, despite getting Clarke Schmidt back this week.

Jake Elman of Athlon Sports recently suggested the Yankees could bolster their rotation with a shocking trade. Elman predicted the Yankees would acquire Colorado Rockies righty Germán Márquez before this season's trade deadline.

"Unfortunately for Yankees fans, it's not about getting their hopes up so much as about accepting reality," Elman wrote. "Simply put, Márquez checks every box that the front office likely desires. Márquez is a league-average pitcher in the final year of his contract, meaning he could realistically come at a reduced price."

Márquez isn't an ace, but the Yankees don't really have the farm system depth to comfortably acquire a pitcher like Sandy Alcántara, Luis Castillo, or Dylan Cease.

A pitcher like the Rockies' righty fits the Yankees much better, though it might not be what fans want to hear. Márquez is in the last year of his contract and has a history of injuries, so the prospect return to land him wouldn't be substantial.

Depth is going to be crucial for the Yankees down the stretch. They can't continue to trust Carlos Carrasco and Stroman to start games. Swinging a trade like this would make quite a bit of sense.
