76ers Lose Another Crucial Player to Injury as Nightmare Season Continues

After a strong offseason, the Philadelphia 76ers regular season couldn't have gone any worse. Entering the year, Philadelphia was seen as one of the top contenders in the Eastern Conference.

But with only a few weeks left in the season, the 76ers year has been a complete disaster. The team has been hit massively by injury and it has caused them to struggle mightily on the court.

Philadelphia has now lost another player just as they were gearing up for a last-ditch effort for a postseason run. Veteran guard Eric Gordon will now be out for at least three weeks as he undergoes arthroscopic surgery on his right wrist.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported the news of the injury on social media.

Gordon joined the 76ers this offseason in search of going on a championship run. But this season has been anything but that for Philadelphia and now Gordon is likely to miss the remainder of the season.

The veteran has only played in 39 games this year for the team, averaging 6.8 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. Gordon has shot 40.9 percent from beyond the 3-point line this year, continuing his marksmanship from distance.

But losing Gordon just before the final stretch of the year will hurt the 76ers. Having a shooting presence like Gordon on the floor forces the defense to adjust and make sure that they know where he is at all times.

But Gordon isn't the biggest problem for the 76ers as star center Joel Embiid has been battling issues all year. Embiid has been dealing with a nagging knee injury and has tried to play through it.

For the year, Embiid has averaged 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 0.9 blocks per game. His numbers have all been down and it's hurt this club.

However, the former MVP has been limited to just 19 games this season. Embiid has been looking at different options to repair the issue but so far, nothing has worked.

This has caused the 76ers to fall in the standings and it's been a lost year for the franchise. Additionally, star forward Paul George has been having the worst statistical year since his second season.

It's been a brutal season for the 76ers and one that the team would like to forget. But even with everything going on, Philadelphia remains only 2.5 games back of the final Play-In spot within the Eastern Conference standings.
