The Philadelphia 76ers have ruled star center Joel Embiid out for the remainder of the season. This news comes after Embiid had been discussing options with doctors to repair an issue with his knee.
Nothing seemed to be working and the veteran star will now miss the rest of the year.

The 76ers released a statement regarding the decision to shut Embiid down for the year.
"The Philadelphia 76ers and Joel Embiid have been consulting with top specialists regarding ongoing issues with his left knee. After further evaluation, it has been determined that he is medically unable to play and will miss the remainder of the season to focus on treatment and rehabilitation."
"We are working with medical experts to determine the exact treatment plan and will update media when we have more information. The team and specialists will continue working with Joel to ensure the best path forward for his long-term health and performance."

Embiid has been dealing with this nagging knee injury all season long and it has limited his time on the court. The former MVP has played in just 19 games this season and his stats have all dropped due to the injuries.
For the year, Embiid has averaged 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 0.9 blocks per game. Phialdelphia has suffered in the standings due to his issues and what was a promising year entering the season has turned into a nightmare for the 76ers.
In addition to injuries that Embiid has dealt with, co-star Paul George has suffered his worst statistical year since his second season in the league. It has been a problematic year for Phialdelphia and one that the franchise will have a hard time getting over.
The 76ers currently hold a record of 20-38 for the season, sitting in 12th place within the Eastern Conference standings. While a playoff run is still within the cards for the 76ers, the tidal wave of injuries has massively hurt this team.
Philadelphia will likely be cautious with Embiid during his injury recovery to avoid any further issues arising. We don't know when Embiid will return to the court next season but his injury history throughout his career is quite concerning.
