Lillard suffered the injury in the first half of Sunday's Game 4 against the Indiana Pacers. Prior to the news breaking, the Bucks had feared it was a torn Achilles injury.
Their worst nightmare had come true, and now Lillard will miss possibly most of the 2025-26 season. The 34-year-old will endure one of his career's toughest and most grueling recoveries, as many don't usually come back to the player they once were after the surgery.
Nonetheless, Lilard will do his best to return to the player we've all become accustomed to in his career, despite being late in his career.
According to Haynes, Lillard is motivated to attack his rehab and return to form. Haynes also said he is in good spirits.
Lillard wrapped up the game without scoring, going 0-for-2 from the field in just six minutes of action. He added two rebounds and two assists but finished with a -2 in the plus/minus column.
It was reported that Lillard was initially dealing with a lower leg injury, but the situation is now much more concerning for the 34-year-old guard and the Bucks.
The injury appeared to occur as Lillard tried to plant his left foot while chasing an offensive rebound. As he pushed forward, he stumbled and immediately reached for his left ankle and heel area.
The Bucks are down 3-1 in their first-round series against the Pacers. Milwaukee suffered a tough Game 4 loss in front of their fans by the final score of 129-103. After the game, Bucks superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo spoke on Lillard and his injury before the news had broke.
"Obviously, seeing anybody go through something like that is tough. You don't want anybody to get hurting. You don't know how serious injury is. You just wish for the best case scenario, but again, it doesn't matter if he's your teammate, your opponent you don't want to see somebody get hurt because I think we spent so much time and effort into our jobs and try to be healthy and try to help our team. You don't want to go down because you don't know how it's going to affect your career looking forward, but at the same time, now I'm talking about my teammate Dame. I've seen the last two years that we've been teammates, the things that he's been going through on the court, and not the court. As I said, previously, I have so much respect for him. A lot of people don't see what Dame had to deal with, but I've been around him every single day and it's hard. It's hard being in this position, but he's one of the toughest, mentally toughest guys I've ever been around and that's why he is who he is and I think he's going to overcome every obstacle that's going to be in front of him. Everybody going to be there for him. No matter what the obstacle is for him, he's going to overcome and we're going to help him overcome," said Antetokounmpo.
