Heat Injury Report: Andrew Wiggins, Kevin Love Statuses Finalized vs Wizards

Will a pair of former All-Star Miami Heat vets suit up for what should be an easy win against the rebuilding Washington Wizards on Monday?

Per a recent NBA injury report, that answer is a resounding no.

Former five-time All-Star power forward/center Kevin is away from the Heat for personal reasons. Former one-time All-Star small forward Andrew Wiggins is on the shelf due to right hamstring tendinopathy.

Per Ira Winderman of The South Florida Sun Sentinel, Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra is unsure of exactly when Wiggins will be back with Miami. The 6-foot-7 swingman out of Kansas is sitting out the entirety of Miami's current three-game road trip. This Wizards clash represents the second game of the stretch.

"I don't have any timetable on it," Spoelstra commented. "But he's definitely making some progress."

Things got a bit ominous when Spoelstra proved cagey when asked if Wiggins will return at all by the end of the 2024-25 regular season.

"I don't have an update," Spoelstra offered.

Sharpshooting swingman Duncan Robinson is on the shelf due to left sacroiliac joint dysfunction. Power forward Nikola Jovic remains out with a broken right hand.

The Wizards, meanwhile, are sitting multiple key pieces, as they ramp up for maximizing their lottery odds in this summer's 2025 NBA Draft. At 33-41, the Heat — winners of four straight — are angling to move up from the No. 10 seed in the East, with the play-in tournament approaching.

Losing the 2025 vintage of Wiggins, 30, hurts Miami a lot more than being without the 2025 iteration of Love, 36.

The former Golden State Warriors champ may not quite be the two-way powerhouse he was during the Warriors' run to the 2022 title, but he's still the best two-way wing on his new team.

Three-time All-Star power forward/center Bam Adebayo's offensive game has generally been prolific but limited to the post, but he's such a good defender (this year aside) that he remains the Heat's highest-upside player. Shooting guard Tyler Herro is in the midst of an All-Star season, thanks to an excellent scoring run, but he's a sieve on defense.

Through 15 games with Miami so far, Wiggins is averaging 19.9 points while slashing .465/.367/.761 shooting splits, 4.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.1 blocks a night.

Love is no longer the All-Star offensive juggernaut he was during his halcyon days with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Cleveland Cavaliers. Still, he's an effective stretch big, on a team that needs offense.

The 6-foot-8 UCLA alum has only played 23 games this year, as he's often on the fringes of Spoelstra's rotations. He's averaging 5.3 points on .357/.358/.696 shooting splits, 4.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists a night.
