Kevin Durant Set to Miss Key Stretch for Suns Due to Significant Injury

The Phoenix Suns will be without their superstar, Kevin Durant, for at least one week.

ESPN's Shams Charania shared via X that Durant suffered a left ankle sprain and will miss the team's upcoming three-game road trip.

The Suns are currently on the outside looking in the play-in tournament as the 11th seed with a 35-40 record. Durant was helped off the court on Sunday during their loss to the Houston Rockets.

The 15-time All-Star left the game in the third quarter after suffering a left ankle sprain while falling to the floor in a collision with Jabari Smith Jr. Durant left the game after playing 23 minutes. In the contest, he recorded 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

The Suns' upcoming schedule is not easy—far from it. With the most demanding schedule left in the season, the Suns will start their three-game road trip on Tuesday against the Milwaukee Bucks, followed by the Boston Celtics on Friday, and end with the New York Knicks on Sunday.

Those three teams are all playoff teams in the Eastern Conference, two of which are the top three seeds in the East.

The Suns are currently 1.5 games out for the last play-in spot. If Durant were to return on time, he would be back by April 8, when the Suns take on the Golden State Warriors. With Durant out for a number of games and their schedule being a gauntlet, the Suns would need a miracle to capture the last spot in the play-in.

The Suns' 2024-25 season has been anything but smooth. After a strong start, they've struggled to maintain consistency, leading to a disappointing stretch. However, Durant continues to showcase why he's one of the game's elite talents.

This season, the two-time champion is putting up impressive numbers, averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 52.7 percent from the field and 43.0 percent from beyond the arc across 62 games, logging 36.5 minutes per contest.

As the season winds down, speculation looms over Durant's future in Phoenix. While many expect this to be his final stretch with the Suns, Durant remains locked in on helping the team reach the play-in tournament and making a postseason push if they get the opportunity.
