The Sacramento Kings will reportedly be open to trading their star point guard, De'Aaron Fox.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Kings are expected to open talks to potentially deal Fox before the Feb. 6 trade deadline.

Fox would be eligible for a supermax contract extension this offseason if he earns All-NBA honors.

Earlier in the season, there were rumors that Fox could force his way out of the state's capital, and it appears that could happen as we approach Feb. 6.

According to Sam Amick of The Atheltic, Fox has continued to signal a lack of interest in extending and has a destination in mind.

Where that destination is is unclear as things stand.

This news immediately puts Fox with the top three best players on the trading block as we approach the deadline. Fox is a bonafide All-Star and has been stellar for the Kings in his eight-year career.

In 512 career games, Fox averages 21.5 points per game, 3.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.4 steals while shooting 47.1 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three in 33.2 minutes.

Fox has also been spectacular this season. In 43 games, he is averaging 25.2 points per game, 5.0 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 1.5 steals while shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 32.4 percent from three in 37.2 minutes.

The timing of this news is interesting, considering the Kings have turned their season around since firing head coach Mike Brown.

Since they did so in late December, they have won 11 of their past 14 games since starting the season 13-19.

Fox turned down a three-year, maximum-salary extension offer during the 2024 offseason, ostensibly because he'd have the opportunity to earn a more lucrative deal during the summer of 2025.

According to NBA insider Chris Hyanes, interested teams will likely be discouraged from trading for him because he's set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2026. Fox's unwillingness to sign an extension has positioned the situation here.

Fox subsequently spoke in October and December about not wanting to commit long-term to Sacramento unless he was sure the team could "compete at a high level" and wasn't just "fighting for a playoff spot."

Even after their recent surge, the Kings fall into that latter category. They currently hold the No. 10 seed in the Western Conference with a 24-22 record.

Teams will be lining up the door for the 27-year-old, who is a one-time All-Star, one-time All-NBA member, and 2023 NBA Clutch Player of the Year.
