Mavericks Injury News: Final Update on Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson vs Raptors

The Dallas Mavericks have made final injury updates to the statuses of Anthony Davis and Klay Thompson for their matchup with the Toronto Raptors.

Davis's final injury listing is probable, but has been confirmed as in, while Thompson's final status is questionable, and he has been confirmed as in for tonight's matchup.

Besides those two players, no key players who weren't already expected to be on the injury report have been listed.

For the Raptors, they will be without many of their key players, such as R.J. Barrett and Brandon Ingram, in what is a completely meaningless game for them.

At 30-50 with two games remaining, the Raptors can't fall or rise in the Eastern Conference standings as the 11th seed in the Eastern Conference, and can't even fall or rise in lottery odds based on the full NBA standings. The closest team to them record-wise is the 33-47 San Antonio Spurs.

The Mavericks currently sit at 38-42 and the tenth seed in the Western Conference. They have some motivation to win the game, at least given they are just one game behind the ninth-seed Sacramento Kings.

Having home-court advantage for the first game of the play-in tournament could be a huge boost for the Mavericks to help build momentum towards a potential official playoff appearance.

If they do manage to beat the Kings, the Mavs would then have to beat either the Memphis Grizzlies or Minnesota Timberwolves to have a chance to face the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round.

Even if star point guard Kyrie Irving wasn't out for the season, that would be a tough matchup to overcome.

With all the negativity surrounding the franchise after shockingly trading away Luka Doncic, a strong end to the season could help bring some positivity. That would start with tonight's matchup against the measly Raptors, whom they should beat even with their extensive injury report.

While the fans will never forget what the franchise did to them, which they made clear after facing the Los Angeles Lakers in what was an emotional return for Doncic, a playoff appearance and making some noise could at least be a step in the right direction.

However, if Anthony Davis and Klay Thompson remain banged up, that could help make the season end on a sour note instead, adding more fuel to the fire of what should already be a difficult situation heading into the offseason.
