Schroder has publicly criticized the NBA trade deadline, saying that the it is "terrible for the league" and even comparing it to slavery.

"It's like modern slavery," Schroder said, per James Herbert of CBS Sports. "It's modern slavery at the end of the day. Everybody can decide where you're going, even if you have a contract."

"Yeah, of course, we make a lot of money and we can feed our families, but at the end of the day if they say, 'You're not coming to work tomorrow, you're going over there,' they can decide that. They got to change that a little bit."

Schroder began his professional basketball career as part of Phantoms Braunschweigh in Germany, his home country in 2010. In 2013, he was named Bundesliga Most Improved Player and Bundesliga Best German Young Player.

Schroder would then join the Atlanta Hawks after they selected him with the 17th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. He would remain with the Hawks until 2018 when they sent him to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Schroder would then find himself playing for multiple other teams over his NBA career, including the Lakers, Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Toronto Raptors, Nets, and Warriors.

In his 12-year NBA career, Schroder has averaged 14 points, 4.9 assists, 2.9 total rebounds, and 0.8 steals per game.
