The St. John's Red Storm put together an impressive 2024-25 college basketball season under the leadership of head coach Rick Pitino. While they did not finish the season as they had hoped, there is a lot of optimism about the future of the program.

Pitino and the Red Storm finished the season with a 31-5 record. Entering the NCAA Tournament, they were a No. 2 seed, and many had them making a championship run.

That did not end up happening.

After beating Omaha in the first round by a final score of 83-53, Pitino and company faced a tough matchup against John Calipari and the Arkansas Razorbacks. St. John's was unable to come away with the win, losing to Arkansas 75-66.

There is still work to be done for Pitino to get the Red Storm to a national championship. He has built the culture the right way, but now he needs to add the right pieces to the roster.

While most of the focus surrounding Pitino has to do with on-court activities, he took to social media on Monday to share a major personal announcement.

In a post on X on Monday morning, Pitino announced that a 15th grandchild has been added to his family. His new grandson's name is Matthew, and he weighed in at eight pounds and 15 ounces.

Following the birth of Matthew, Pitino is now up to eight grandson's and seven granddaughter's.

Throughout his illustrious college basketball head coaching career, Pitino has placed his name among the greats. He has had his fair share off controversy, but has continued winning everywhere he has gone.

Since becoming a college head coach back in 1975-76 at Hawaii, Pitino went on to be the head coach at Boston University, Providence, Kentucky, Louisville, Iona, and now St. John's.

As a whole, he has compiled a 761-308 career record. That mark is good enough for a 73.9 percent win rate. He has also won a national championship, which came back in the 1995-96 season with the Wildcats.

Pitino also won a second national championship in 2012-13 with Louisville, but that championship was vacated by the NCAA due to off-the-court issues.

Looking ahead to the future, Pitino will look to build out a better roster to compete for a championship again during the 2025-26 season. In the meantime, he'll be enjoying some valuable time with the newest addition to his family.
