Purdy is now one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league, receiving $53 million per year. The 25-year-old went from Mr. Irrelevant in the 2022 draft to reaching a huge deal with the 49ers in only a matter of years.

For the past three seasons, the 49ers have had football's best bargain as Purdy's initial deal with the team was a four-year, $3.74 million contract.

Last offseason, there was much uncertainty surrounding the contracts of Trent Williams and Brandon Aiyuk. The prolonged saga for both signings appeared to have taken a toll on the 49ers once the season began.

This offseason, San Francisco has wasted no time inking deals with both George Kittle and Purdy. The 49ers wanted to ensure Purdy would be ready to lead OTAs and training camp without negotiations getting in the way.

Purdy was the No. 262 overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft. The 49ers picked up the Iowa State product as a third-string option, behind Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo. Injuries to both Lance and Garoppolo paved the way for Purdy's opportunity in the NFL. S

Since assuming the role as the 49ers head coach in 2017, Kyle Shanahan has been searching for a reliable signal-caller. In a Week 13 game against the Miami Dolphins, Purdy proved he could fill that role for the 49ers.

Purdy helped the 49ers defeat Miami 33-17, completing 68 percent of his passes and throwing for two touchdowns. It was the beginning of what would be a long relationship between Purdy and the 49ers.

In 2023, Purdy helped guide the 49ers to another NFC West title and to Super Bowl LVIII during his first full season as the starter.

Last season, Purdy finished 10th in the NFL with 3,864 passing yards despite missing two starts due to injury. The 49ers ended the 2024 campaign with an abysmal 6-11 record, last in the division.

Nevertheless, the adversity Purdy faced throughout the season only proved his worth to San Francisco. The quarterback dealt with the loss of key stars to injury, including Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk, and Trent Williams.

While the outcome of the season was less than ideal for San Francisco, the organization has used the offseason to rebrand ahead of the 2025-26 season.

And so, the 49ers officially have their franchise quarterback.
