The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will get offensive coordinator Liam Coen back, as he has signed a new deal to remain on the team. Coen has been in heavy consideration for the head coach position with the Jacksonville Jaguars but has withdrawn himself from consideration.

According to NFL insider Ari Meirov, "#Bucs OC Liam Coen is signing a new deal to stay in Tampa Bay and has informed the #Jaguars that he is withdrawing from consideration for their HC position, per Adam Schefter. Coen was viewed as a top candidate in Jacksonville."

Coen was meant to be one of the front runners to land the head coach position with the Jaguars, but he has chosen instead to remain the offensive coordinator with the Buccaneers.

Coen is now joined by defensive coordinator Patrick Graham from the Las Vegas Raiders and former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh in not wanting to secure a job as the next head coach of the Jaguars.

Multiple reports have indicated that a big reason why the Jaguars will have trouble finding a new head coach is that they retained general manager Trent Baalke. Baalke was surprisingly not fired along with Doug Pederson.

With Coen choosing instead to stay with the Buccaneers, the team can continue their ascension along with Baker Mayfield.

Coen came over to the Buccaneers from Kentucky, where he served as the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. Jumping from the collegiate level to the NFL paid dividends, as Mayfield experienced the best season of his career.

Mayfield threw 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions in the 2024 regular season. Oddly, he was not named in the Pro Bowl, but he should have been.

Coen is a major reason that Mayfield experienced such a solid season, and the Buccaneers will now keep their dynamic offensive mind in-house.

According to Fox Sports, the Buccaneers had the No. 3 overall offense in the NFL in 2024. The team also nearly advanced in the playoffs, but were eliminated in a 23-20 nail-biter against the Washington Commanders.

Things have been looking up for the Buccaneers, and now they will get back their offensive guru to help guide and lead the offense for another season, presumably.

For the Jaguars, the team is starting to run out of candidates who want to take on the head coach position. It will be interesting to see if the team can land someone big considering the candidates that are pulling out.
