The Bears are acquiring All-Pro guard Joe Thuney from the Kansas City Chiefs. In just two moves, Chicago has created a massively improved offensive line.

According to Ian Rapoport, "The Bears are expected to trade for Chiefs All-Pro G Joe Thuney, as the Chicago continues to load up on the offensive line. KC gets a bit younger, plus frees up some money to use elsewhere."

Rapoport also added, "The deal is being finalized as we speak, but sources say it's centered around a future fourth-round pick." Rapoport has also confirmed the trade is a 2026 fourth-round pick.

Thuney has become one of the best guards and offensive linemen in the entire NFL. Though the Chiefs are losing one of their better players, this allows the team to have a much younger core.

Thuney began his career with the New England Patriots after being drafted in the third round of the 2016 draft. He would spend five seasons with the Patriots and signed a massive five-year, $80 million deal with the Chiefs in 2021.

Thuney has secured four Super Bowl wins, two First-Team All-Pro selections, two Second-Team All-Pro selections, and four Pro Bowl nods in his career thus far.

Thuney now joins Jackson to create a strong interior to protect Williams. The upcoming second-year quarterback was sacked a league-leading 68 times in 2024.

Chicago needed to find a way to strengthen their line to ensure Williams has enough time to throw the ball, and they have made two massive moves to guarantee that happens in 2025. Jackson and Thuney are huge veterans that should immediately strengthen the line for Williams to have time to throw, and boost the run game.

The Bears have a new head coach in Ben Johnson, the former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator. With Johnson joining the Windy City, the front office has already made two massive additions with Thuney and Jackson.

Chicago had a strong start in 2024, posting a 4-2 record. However, things vastly changed and the team lost the next 10.

The organization is clearly serious about rebounding in 2025, and they will go into the season with an already rebuilt offensive line.
