Former New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daniel Jones has found his new team, as he is set to sign with the Indianapolis Colts.

Jones will presumably be in line for the starting position — and at the very least, he will act as direct competition for Anthony Richardson.

Jones is signing a one-year deal with the Colts, which is valued at $17.7 million. If he can win the starting job and showcase his talents, he may end up with a resurgence like what Sam Darnold had in 2024 with the Vikings.

Jones played for almost six seasons with the Giants, securing 14,582 yards, 70 touchdowns, and 47 interceptions. The hope was that he would emerge as the franchise quarterback for New York, but that wasn't the case.

Following most of the 2024 season, it was revealed that Jones was being benched for Tommy DeVito, leading to him requesting a release from the team. The Giants granted this request, and Jones would then be signed days later to the Vikings practice squad.

Jones would then serve as the backup to Darnold, in case injury led him to not be able to finish the season strong. Now, Jones gets another fresh start with the Colts.

Richardson has had struggles of his own, and he pulled himself from a game in the 2024 season. The Colts would then bench Richardson and allow Joe Flacco the chance to put together some wins.

Flacco's performance was also not the best, leading to the Colts flipping between Richardson and Flacco through the final eight games of the season. It was believed Indianapolis would find a veteran to compete with Richardson in 2025, and they have done just that.

Jones and Richardson are likely going to battle it out in training camp and preseason for the starting job in 2025. Though the Colts have placed a lot of faith in Richardson, the 2024 season proved that the young quarterback may not be at the maturity level he needs to be.

Richardson also suffered some injuries in 2024 due to his tough running. Having a strong veteran presence to step in if the young signal caller gets hurt was always the plan for the Colts.

Even more so, Jones can act two fold for the team. He can be the starting quarterback the team needs in 2025, or push Richardson to a new level.
